Classical Pilates Benefits: Golf

As golf places more emphasis on one side of the body than the other during play, muscular imbalances can build up around the shoulders, hips and back which will hinder the person’s ability to successfully produce a consistent, good quality golf swing ultimately leading to injury.

Ask any PGA teaching professional to make a positive change to a client’s golf swing they will be unable to do so if the client’s body does not possess the underlying biomechanics needed to execute the required movements. No matter how good the coach is or how much practice is done by the client, if the body does not have the ability to execute the biomechanics required for a good golf swing, the student will instead compensate with inefficient, unnatural movements that will as already said eventually lead to pain and injury. Many golf pros talk of having to adjust their swing to compensate for the limitations in their body. Compensation just reinforces poor movement patterns, which further increases the risk of injury.

A FUNDAMENTAL CHANGE TO THE GOLFER’S INEFFECTIVE MOVEMENT PATTERNS CAN BE ACIEVED BY USING PILATES, ALLOWING GOLFERS TO CONSISTANTALY HIT THE BALL FARTHER AND STRAIGHTER WHILE REDUCING THE RISK OF INJURY AND PAIN.

Here at the Green Room we can offer the golfer access to a world acclaimed Pilates training system where the use of the Pilates Method has been used to specifically enhance the biomechanics of the golf swing. In 2009 I(Nigel Rooker) attended a training course entitled Pilates for Golf delivered by course founder Sarah Christiensen ,in which we were learned the biomechanics of the golf swing, analysis of individual swing biomechanics . Here at the Green Room we can offer the golfer a customised Classical Pilates program designed to deliver optimal results, giving our golf clients many years enjoying the game.

The course developer, Sarah Christiensen has introduced the likes of Tiger Woods, Rocco Mediate, Camillo Villegas and golf coach Butch Harmon to the benefits of regular Classical Pilates practice. She has gone on to develop a further aspect of the course using cutting edge CGI( computer generated imagery) techniques to more accurately film and analyse a golfers swing, I hope to able this service at some point in the future.
